“Nicos Weg” Germany film review

Synopsis film

the story begins when there is a man who just arrived at the airport in germany. When he arrived, he used earphones while looking around the airport. He listens to German speaking procedures, such as how to introduce himself in German, etc., because he is not very good at German yet. Then suddenly there was a little girl who touched the man's bag, and said that the man's bag was cool. Then there was a woman who approached the little girl and asked her to go with her immediately. when the man came out, he saw the little girl who was playing with the bubble. He also reflexively put down his bag and walked over to the girl to join in playing bubble. unconscious, the man's bag was carried away by a taxi. then the little girl and the woman went to their car. It was there that the man realized that his bag was accidentally carried by a taxi. he was confused because all his things were in the bag, and he could not speak german fluently. The little girl and the woman noticed the man's confused movements. they also approached the man and asked what the problem was. the man explains what happened to him. the woman finally offered to help find the man's bag. While in the car, the girl arranges the cookies alphabetically according to her name, which is "Emma," and Emma teaches the man how to introduce himself in German. Emma also introduced the woman who had been with her, she is his aunt, named Lisa. The man also did the same thing as Emma, he arranged an alphabet cookies according to his name, Nico. When they stuck in traffic, Nico learns various vocabulary words and numbers in german language. Then they met Max, Max is Lisa’s friend. Max had an idea to help Nico find his bag (also find his aunt that lives in Germany). Lisa asked her father who’s a police officer, to help find Nico’s Aunt named Yara. Nico stayed for a few days at Lisa’s house and Lisa’s friends, named Sebastian and Nina. Sebastian helped Nico to find Yara’s shop address by posted a photo of Yara on his Facebook page, but sadly the address was wrong. Then that night, Nico met Salma, a girl from Damascus, and they learned what are called cardinal directions in German. Then Lisa told Nico that she was going to have a vacation with her friends, of course, Niko can't stay at Lisa's house while Lisa is away on vacation. Luckily, he founs a place to live with an old woman, named Inge. The next day, Nico is asked to babysit Emma for a full day, and that's when Nico learns the timetable in German with Emma. Nico also learned road directions in German. The next day, Lisa's father who is a police officer, approached Nico and Emma. He says that he has found Yara's Address, who is none other than Nico's aunt. Nico and Lisa went to the address that had been given by Lisa’s father before, but unfortunately, the shop was closed!  Since that day, Nico started living with Inge. While living with Inge, Nico learned about cleaning the house in german. The next day, when Nico helps at Max’s cafe, he accidentally sees a photo of his Aunt, Yara on display. It turns out that Max knows his aunt. Max also knows where Yara works. Then, Max and Nico went to the shop where Yara works. There they met Tarek, who also knows Yara. Unexpectedly, Yara, Max, and Tarek have a bicycle shop together. But Tarek said that Yara had long left the bicycle shop for some business in Zurich. After that, Nico went shopping with Inge before going back home. Later, Nico’s bag was found by 2 homeless people. They decided to take the items in the bag, but the bag stayed on the road. Suddenly Selma found Nico’s bag by the side of the road. She contacted Lisa and told her that she found Nico’s bag. Selma asked Nico to meet her in front of Yara’s bicycle shop. Few days later, Max and his friends invited Nico to play football together, Nico agreed with their invitation. But while playing, Nico accidentally broke his leg, so they rushed to take Nico to the hospital. Not long after Nico recovered, he visited Yara’s shop and then at the same time, Yara has come home from Zurich, then they met.

Review:

This film contains sentences and conversations that we have studied. So even though I have a little difficulty digesting it, I can still catch some conversations because there are sentences that have been taught in learning German. i love this film. this is my first time watching a german film, and i find it interesting.

Some things that makes me a little confused is, is it in fact that if we lose our things or stuff in people’s countries (for example in Germany), will there be other people or stranger that will kindly help us like the way Lisa helps Nico? I mean, we are taught from childhood that we shouldn't trust people we don't know too much, but in this film, Lisa is very kind and Nico did not have the slightest doubt or suspicion on Lisa, it was clear that they were just strangers who didn't know each other at first. But back then, this is just a film, but I hope that if what happened to Nico happened in the real life, I hope there will be good people who will help foreigners who need help from local residents.

Oh also, also this film shows how difficult it is to be a foreigner who is not yet fluent in speaking the country's language that they visited. But most of all, i like this film.
